Ice battery configurations

The modular design of the ice battery suits a wide range of applications. Depending on your demand, units can be connected in parallel or in series. Inside the battery we can scale with the density of the capillary mats, which lets output be optimised against energy density. The ice battery is assembled around your application — energy storage exactly as you need it.

A modular ice battery for any cooling demand

The sp.ICE ice battery comes in three standard container sizes, from compact 10ft units through 20ft to large 40ft installations. One module is enough for smaller projects; several or larger units are easily connected in parallel where higher output is needed. For larger or non-standard dimensions, in-situ installation is possible. Ask us about the options for your basement or plant room.

Charging and discharging cycle

Charging cycle

At an average charging temperature of −2.2 °C the tank charges fully in 10 hours. At −3.4 °C that comes down to under 6 hours. Parameters are always determined per project.

Discharging cycle

The full capacity is available for as long as the tank temperature sits at 0 °C. Above that, the latent capacity falls away gradually.

Low pressure loss

The capillary-tube heat exchanger design of sp.ICE achieves high capacity at a low pressure drop — which translates directly into lower operating costs.

Connecting in parallel

Several modules are easily connected hydraulically in parallel, so your cooling capacity grows with your project without a full redesign.

The modular design of the ice battery can be deployed in more than one way. For large installations it can be built up modularly in a single large room or concrete basin. Alongside you can see a photograph of an ice battery being assembled mat by mat, which is how we fit one into an existing space. For large installations it is cheaper to build with 40ft modules in a concrete basin: lower transport costs and quick placement make for an economical installation at scale. Modules are coupled together on site.
