Ice battery storing cold, spare energy
Wij geloven in duurzame energie. Duurzame energie die slim ingezet wordt, zodat u optimaal gebruik maakt van dalen in de energie kosten en pieken zoveel mogelijk vermijdt.
We are particularly thinking of buffering cold to absorb price peaks. When energy costs are low, we allow the ice to grow; when energy prices are high, we allow the ice to melt. A reliable system that stores energy efficiently, so that energy is available for use when costs are high.
The ice battery is sustainable, has an ‘infinite’ lifespan and becomes more economically attractive as the required capacity increases.
We have found a partner in the German sp-ICE.
Applications of the ice battery:
- Industrial cooling process
- Climate management of buildings
- Emergency cooling
- District cooling
We offer customer-specific solutions and our research is completely non-binding.
With a Flex-E subsidy, we can create a flexibility scan or a feasibility study and even have the proposed measures carried out, against 65% of the costs!
Advantages and disadvantages of ice battery
Advantages
- Sustainable
- Cost efficient
- Efficient
- Long lifespan
Disadvantages
- Bigger content
- Limited applicability (only for cooling)
Advantages:

Sustainability
The ice battery uses water as a storage medium. In all respects, a less polluting alternative to batteries. The ice battery is based on the phase transition of water, which requires a lot of energy. By storing your energy needs in water, you save enormous amounts of pollution from, for example, mining and battery production.
Cost savings
The operational and initial costs are lower than those of traditional battery storage, which makes it economically much more attractive. The larger the storage, the more attractive the payback model.
Efficiency
An ice battery offers potential for higher energy storage capacity and efficiency, especially for companies with a significant need for (interrupted) cooling.
Lifespan
A chemical battery has a limited lifespan (~7 years), but an ice battery can be ‘recharged’ almost indefinitely (lifespan approx. 20 years).
